Electric Bikes Boards & Scooters

When Commuting Needs Style

From Seated Scooters (with Indie music playing on Bluetooth) - to cruising on an electric board - All these can be a great way to liven up summer or do short commutes.

Some Key Features Include- Motor Capacity: Measured in Watts (___W). 500W generally translates to a max speed of 20mph. 1000W and higher can generally reach up to 30mph (on flat ground, all conditions ideal). Range per full charge: Scooters and Bikes are much more efficient and reliable here, averaging 30+ mile range to a skateboard's 12-18 mile maximum range. Hills and rider size will limit performance. Incline ratings: are tricky, but generally anything above 20% grade is good (quick reference 10% grade= 5.71 degrees. * 20% grade= 11.31 degrees. 30% grade= 16.70 degrees).

Honestly, we don't expect to reach the upper capacity in all of the reported metrics, but we do expect quality high and mid-price buys to be fun and to last! All-terrain wheels promise greater utility, especially for college-age students, where short commutes are common and bypassing parking is heavenly.

Scooters are a good option for fun or to commute, most can fold easily for storage. Mid: Gotrax XR (15mph), SEHOMY w/ seat (15mph) Pro: Segway P65

Bikes ratings are often listed assuming a pedal and motor assist combo. HeyBike brand bikes are heavy duty with a higher price tag. They have a range of options to choose from including all terrain bikes to city stepthrough bikes. The Auloor bike (750W, 30mph) is affordable, and stands out for its amazing folding/ storage feature!

Skateboards / Longboards come with a handheld control. Speed can be limited in steps for beginners. Most have 2 motors, the maximum output will be near one motor's rating- 600W for example, but they will be listed as "1200W Dual Motor".

Keep your personal needs, ability, and experience in mind. Be sure to understand the technologies limits; for example, going down long/ steep hills can overheat elements including the brakes. Any activity has risks, and pavement can be particularly unforgiving. So, as serious as we are about having fun while doing things such as rock climbing or going fast, we are equally serious about using protective equipment like helmets that cover the back of your skull. Be smart while riding and use other protective equipment that makes sense.

Hobby Sports

Unfortunately, quickly evolving technology products like these have rapid turnover, may have very few reviews, may have design flaws, or simply crack when exposed to extreme conditions (fast turns, tricks, water, cracked pavement, etc.). All these can lead to damaged parts; we try to keep in mind that these are often 'hobby' toys/ vehicles. Warranty and return policies are generally excellent on Amazon, which is one of the main reasons we support them. We hope you don't have to use warranties too often, but they are there if you need them.

Other good news is that many of these companies are offering discounts of $50 or $100s off, so this could be the perfect time to get something fun for summer!!

These ice cleats were literal LIFE SAVERS on our last trip!!! We bought them at trailhead price and were still thankful. They are very light and fit securely. A new must-have for us if there is any chance of packed snow.
